Professor Brooks has been an exhibiting Artist and educator for more than 45 years, 40 of which have been at La Guardia Community College right here in LIC where he was Program Director of Art and Photography for much of it.

Brooks exhibited for more than 20 years with OK Harris in SOHO and with other galleries such as Lawrence Oliver, Pam Adler, Frank Marino, and OK Harris West. He also exhibited at the Queens Museum in 1985 and Neptune Saturn in Nashville. His work is in many collections both public and private.

Brook’s work is guided by his statement that; “Painting, Drawing, and Sculpture are one in the same”. He frequently uses mixed media such as wood, canvas, plastic, collage, acrylic, alkyd, epoxy, oil and enamel paint to create his enigmatic iconography suggesting a strong influence by Japanese, African, Persian, Mughal, Hindu, Constructivism, Surrealism and many other forms of spirit driven Art. Bruce studied with various mentors, especially abstract expressionist Ernest Briggs, where Bruce defined his focus in color and composition and the freedom to work as he pleases in any direction, any form, anyway. All of Art History and its mediums are Brook’s vocabulary.
