Our Studios
Reis Studios is a finished workspace for artists featuring over 180 private studios, an experimental gallery, a dirty room, and a small communal coffee area and a collection of art books. It is a friendly community of over 180 artists from 20 different nations, working as painters, sculptors, photographers, graphic designers, fashion designers, installation and video artists. It was created in January 2002 by the Brazilian artist Juvenal Reis to initiate a community of contemporary artists in Long Island City. We will soon add a new Art Gallery with over 2500SF space for larger projects with our community.

With a total of 70.000SF, the professionally built studios range in size from 200 to 1200SF of usable space, 12-foot ceilings, sound and thermal insulated walls, and metal doors. Every studio is wired for high speed Internet and voice over IP capability. Some studios also include telephone connection. Most spaces with window, Hot /Cold Water inside and electric switch for track lights.

There is also the Dirty Room where qualified artists can work with power tools to develop light projects (i.e. building frames, stretcher, boxes and crating) or other projects that produce noise or dust.

The Experimental Space is 800 sq ft. (35.1/2 x 22') with 12 foot ceilings, walls for heavy art work, equipped with professional dimmed track lighting, four speakers, digital and slide projectors. It is an ideal space for artists and independent curators to present specific projects and exhibitions before reaching out to a major art audience.

The Collection of books on art is an open communal environment where all artists can borrow books or donate their own books to everybody's benefit.

Our Mission
It is our commitment to create an environment where established and emerging artists can thrive in their work and their career in the arts, and to establish a place where gallery directors, curators, collectors, writers, designers and architects can find high-quality, fresh and progressive ideas in art. We achieve this by carefully selecting our artists, encouraging their input and supporting their interaction to ensure a better experience while at Reis Studios. We continuously encourage new projects to interact with the greater community of Long Island City, including artist talks, workshops, open studios, group and solo shows, internships, visiting artist programs and visiting curators.
