About Reis Studios
Reis Studios is a finished workspace for artists featuring over 190 private studios, an art gallery space, an experimental gallery, a dirty room, and a small communal coffee area a collection of art and culture books, and a full loading dock with large industrial elevators servicing all of our three floors.
Reis Studios is a friendly community of over 200 artists from 35 nations, working as painters, sculptors, photographers, graphic designers, fashion designers, installation artists, video artists and creative people of other disciplines. It was created in January 2002 by the Brazilian artist Juvenal Reis to initiate a community of contemporary artists in what is now New York City’s most exciting emerging arts district, Long Island City.
With over 80.000 sq.ft, the professionally built studios range in size from 200 to 1500 sq.ft of usable space, 12-foot ceilings, sound and thermal insulated walls, and secure metal doors. Every studio is wired for high speed internet and WiFi free access. Some studios also include telephone connections. Most spaces have windows (although we have windowless studios for those who prefer controlled light), and many spaces include hot and cold running water and switching for track lights.
We are now implementing our newest project, International Artist in Resident Program to help promote cultural exchange. Our first project is in France and will kick in next August in the city of Toulon-Sur-Arroux.
